The Washington Post’s Chris Cilizza’s top five Vice Presidential picks for both candidates.
For McCain:
- Governor Tim Pawlenty (MN)
- Senator John Thune (SD)
- Former Congressman/OMB Director Rob Portman (OH)
- Governor Charlie Crist (FL)
- Former Governor Mitt Romney (MA)
For Obama:
- Governor Kathleen Sebelius (KS)
- Governor Ted Strickland (OH)
- Senator Hillary Clinton (NY)
- Governor Tim Kaine (VA)
- Former Senator Sam Nunn (GA)
We have a couple of questions regarding Cilizza’s list: Where the hell is Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina for McCain and Senator Jim Webb of Virginia for Obama?!

From The Hill:
[regarding the possibility of being offered the VP spot] “On the Democratic side of the aisle, Sen. Jim Webb (Va.) also dismissed the idea — but with a grin.”
Maybe Cilizza was taking Webb at his word, though I doubt it. Who really believes there are senators who would turn down that opportunity? I would replace Cilizza’s # 3 with Webb and move # 3 to # not-in-a-million-years.
And what about Edwards, professors? I would like to see him in a position where he could really do something. If not as VP, AG? SCOTUS?
